As you may already be aware, Portsmouth Water is planning to create a new reservoir in Hampshire to secure reliable drinking water for years to come. The reservoir will be built on the grassland site next to Havant Thicket, which sits in between Rowlands Castle, Leigh Park and Staunton Country Park in Havant.
As well as providing reliable supplies for the water-stressed South East, it will also create a new green, leisure facility for local communities. It will be the first new reservoir to be built in the South East since the 1970s and is being developed in collaboration with Southern Water.
Portsmouth Water held a public Consultation on its latest plans for the reservoir between Monday 11 May and Monday 8 June 2020. As part of the Consultation, people were invited to sign up for one of a series of Webinars organised by Portsmouth Water. This Parish Council helped in publicising the Consultation (incl webinars) by posting details on this website, and also on its Facebook page and the Grapevine message system. The Parish Council also submitted its own response to the Consultation which can be viewed here.
The updated proposals for Havant Thicket Reservoir were published online on 11 May and remain available at https://www.portsmouthwater.co.uk/new-reservoir/. This includes information on the reservoir’s design, a visitor centre, options for an access road and a new pipeline to enable the reservoir to be filled and emptied. Two access roads are being considered for the reservoir now – one from the north off the B2149 and one from the south off Swanmore Road, in Leigh Park. A slightly alternative route for the pipeline is being shared too. There are also details on Portsmouth Water’s plans to enhance the environment and support wildlife through the scheme.
